Calling all Musicians!

Every Friday at Salhouse we enjoy our Music assemblies. This week we had a special performance by Miles from Year 4 on the keyboard. He has been learning the instrument at school with Mr Bell and at home with his dad, and he wowed us all by playing Green, Green Grass, Starlight and Kingston Town.

Are you learning an instrument? (It doesn’t matter what level you’re at!)  Would you like the chance to show off your skills to the whole school? Then just let your teacher know and we will arrange a date!

Herons Church Visit

To complete our RE unit on the Big Question “What does it mean if God is loving and holy?”, Herons walked up to All Saints Church to explore and reflect.

We began this unit thinking about the staggering number of people in the world today who have a religious faith – 2.6 billion Christians and 2 billion Muslims. Then we zoomed in on the Christian religion and looked briefly at the huge variety of beliefs and practices all within the same religion. We noted that, despite all of their differences, one key concept that unites all Christians is the idea of a God who is both holy (divine; perfect; separate from and ‘above’ us) and loving. And if God is both holy and loving, then Christians feel a duty to worship. This beautiful church in our village, with its magnificent architecture, is itself an act of worship designed to glory in a holy and loving God. We finished our visit with a rehearsal of Silent Night/Stille Nacht to hear the beautiful acoustics in the church.

Spelling

This week in spelling, we have been learning what a prefix is. We have looked at the prefix ‘re’ and how it changes the meaning of the word.

Throughout the term, we have been developing strategies to help spell words. Today we played a game where we had to work out what word was on our hat and then write it down using the correct spelling.

It was a challenging way to learn the meanings of new words and spell them.

We had fun though!

Computing

This term in Kingfishers we are learning what coding is. We are building up games which require us to move items around the screen, change direction and disappear. In order to do this, we need to create a code that causes something to happen when an item is clicked on or a button is pressed.

Once we are successful, we can create different backgrounds and add other images.

When we are not successful, we need to look back at the codes we have created and see why it does not work.
