Forest School 2

We had another wonderful forest school session last Friday. The children made ‘nests’ for birds, using sheep’s wool, leaves, and twigs. They then hung these in the trees. The children had the opportunity to do some sewing and some planting of daffodil bulbs. Many children wore an animal headpiece to play a ‘predator’ game, thinking about which animals eat other animals. The children have plenty of free time to do what they would like to whether it be climbing trees, building a den or taking part in one of the activities. A yummy snack of scotch pancakes warmed on the fire was also enjoyed by all.

‘And Tango Makes Three’

In our Literacy lessons this half term we are enjoying looking at a book called ‘And Tango Makes Three’. It is about two penguins called Roy and Silo who desperately want a chick to care for. They are given an egg by the zoo keeper from another penguin couple who can’t look after it. Roy and Silo care for the egg until it hatches. The penguin chick is called Tango.  The children made these penguin collages inspired by this story.

Mini-beast Hunting

As part of our topic on Animals and during one of our Forest School sessions the children enjoyed hunting for mini-beasts. We thought about what features each creature had and where they like to live.

Norfolk County Music Festival

Our Salsa Band and Ukulele Group performed at the Norfolk Music Festival this week, both achieving ‘Outstanding’ grades from the judges.

Comments on the Salsa Band:

“What a fantastic performance to start the festival with! Excellent rhythm all the way through with fabulous playing from everyone. It is so hard to play and sing and this was accomplished with aplomb. Part ii had wonderful piano playing. Very accomplished and well rehearsed.”

Comments on the Ukulele Group:

“What a talented group of young musicians! Brilliant ukulele and keyboard playing   from  everyone  and  the  singing was first class. Dance Monkey  was brilliant, with more difficult chords, rhythms and great use of dynamics and combinations of instruments. All songs really  well   rehearsed.  Congratulations!”

Forest School

On Friday, the children very much enjoyed our first Forest School session. We looked for signs of Spring, made stickmen, climbed trees, made bird food, dug holes in the mud and enjoyed a marshmallow smore around the campfire. We were very lucky that the sun was shining and it was a joy to see the children exploring and learning in our Forest School area.

Girls’ Football

On Tuesday our girls football team participated in the Norfolk School Games Girls’ Football Tournament at Thorpe St. Andrew High School. The team played against three other schools and won all three games, taking us through to the county finals on Friday 7th March! A huge well done to our team: Ivy (c), Megan, Georgina, Layla, Florence S, Hattie, Freya, Lily, Grace. We are especially proud of how they played in the second game as they had to come from behind, showing their perseverance and courage. See below for results and goalscorers.

Coots Year 1 Maths

At the end of last half term, Year 1 Coots took their Maths learning outside. The children had to hunt for missing number sentences in our outside area and then work with their partner to find the missing number.
